Blue Victoria proudly presented its IoT & AI-enabled system for Kifereji monitoring and response in Lake Victoria at the Global Conservation Tech & Drone Forum in Nairobi. This innovative solution focuses on addressing the growing challenge of sudden mass fish die-off events (locally known as Kifereji) by leveraging real-time data and predictive technology to improve early detection and response.
During the presentation, we highlighted how the system integrates IoT-based water quality monitoring with community data and future AI-driven analytics to track critical environmental parameters such as dissolved oxygen, temperature, and water quality changes. The approach aims to provide early warning signals that can help fishers, fish farmers, and stakeholders take timely action to reduce losses and protect livelihoods. The session generated strong interest from participants, who were eager to learn how technology can be applied in practical, community-centered ways to solve complex environmental challenges. We were also honored to have our funder’s Regional Coordinator from Cisco, Sharon, attend the session. It was a valuable moment to meet her in person and exchange insights on the impact and future potential of the project after the presentation. Her presence underscored the importance of partnerships in driving innovation for conservation. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our work and connect with the global conservation technology community. Events like this strengthen collaboration, inspire new ideas, and reinforce our commitment to using technology to protect freshwater ecosystems and support resilient communities in the Lake Victoria Basin.
