Blue Victoria is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of freshwater biodiversity in the Lake Victoria Basin. As part of our mission, we are initiating a project to establish a Community Conservation Area (CCA) in the pristine Mara Bay KBA. To support this endeavor, we are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join us as a Fisheries & Conservation Officer Intern.
Position: Fisheries & Conservation Officer Intern
Location: Mara Bay, Lake Victoria Basin
Duration: 1 Year (Paid Internship)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's/Diploma in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Marine Conservation, or related field.
Priority will be given to candidates from Mara or Mwanza.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the implementation of the Community Conservation Area (CCA) project in Mara Bay.
2. Empower local youth in establishing and managing aquaculture units to reduce pressure on wild catch.
3. Collaborate with community members to designate and manage the CCA.
4. Conduct research on fisheries, aquaculture, and community conservation best practices.
5. Organize and participate in community workshops and awareness programs.
Requirements:
- Passion for freshwater biodiversity conservation.
- Strong communication and community engagement skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to reside in Mara Bay for the duration of the internship.
